Delhi court extends NIA custody of arrested Hurriyat leaders | KNO

Delhi court on Friday extended the National Investigation Agency (NIA) custody of four Kashmiri pro-freedom leaders, including son-in- law of Hurriyat leader S.A.S. Geelani, by 10 more days.

Reports said that Police custody of Altaf Shah, Bashir Ahmad Bhat alias Pir Saifullah, Mairaj Kalwal and Nayeem Khan has been extended till 14 August.

As per reports Aftab Hilali Shah alias Shahid ul Islam, Farooq Ahmed Dar alias Bitta Karrate and Mohammad Akbar Khanday alias Ayaz Akbar have been send to Judicial Custody till 1 September.

Special Judge O P Saini, sent the three leaders to judicial custody for a month after the National Investigation Agency did not seek their custody.

All the arrested pro-freedom leaders were produced before a Delhi court today.

The NIA had arrested seven pro-freedom leaders—Altaf Shah, Ayaz Akbar, Peer Saifullah, Mehraj Kalwal, Shahid-ul-Islam, Naeem Khan and Bitta Karate—from Jammu and Kashmir for allegedly funding terror in the Valley on 24 June.

A day after their arrest they were later sent to 10-day NIA custody. The accused have been charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Six of them were arrested from Srinagar, while Bitta Karate was arrested from New Delhi.
